Child Custody
Child Custody refers tot he care, control, and financial support of minor children. There are two parts to custody: legal custody and physical custody. Legal custody refers to important decisions like education and health care. Physical custody refers to who your children live with most of the time. Courts can order joint legal custody or sole legal custody depending on the situation.
Parenting time, also known as visitation, is the schedule to help parents and children coordinate the times they see each other. Courts can order with a schedule, reasonable, supervised, or no visitation.
Even if you have a current court order, you can petition the court to request modification to child custody and parenting time. It is important for those that were never married to go through this process to ensure your rights are protected.
